Real Lasting Love
out now on bandcamp

David Marshall

Folk and folk-rock singer-songwriter, retro all the way back to the late Pleistocene (see my "History" album)

After a lifetime of environmental and social activism, in fear and frustration, I decided the only thing still worth doing was writing and performing songs about my concerns. To stay in balance, I also write fun instrumental stuff and try to get outdoors as much as possible. Let's enjoy, protect, and love what remains.

I wanted to write a love song for Barbara. Once I got started, it turned into four. To quote Anniversary Song, "All these words, I still long to say more..."

Real Lasting Love is available as of August 5th, 2025 on bandcamp, and will be released on the major streaming services on August 16th.

New Release

Available August 8th, 2025 on most Streaming Services. Available as of August 5th on bandcamp. Full scores below.

I have some Celtic heritage on both sides of my family, and from childhood, have felt an easy relationship to nature. I dabbled in Celtic Shamanism for a spell before following a path of Buddhist meditation, but my affinity for the approach of Celtic cultures to the seasonal round has remained an important part of my nature-consciousness. This four-part suite for voice and small orchestra is my attempt to express in music the Celtic tradition of  honoring the days at the mid-points between the solstices and equinoxes. We commonly know three of these four celebrations in bastardized forms: Halloween (Samhain), Ground Hog Day (Imbolc), and May Day (Beltane), with the fourth, Lammas or Lughnasa Day, marking the height of summer and the start of harvest near the beginning of August. Scores of an alternative and greatly condensed version of these pieces for recorder or other SATB ensemble are provided in the pdf scores section below.
